APB School Level Proposal
Animal and Plant Biotechnology (APB) has been chosen as the fourth CASE course to develop due to industry needs related to biotechnology subject knowledge and skills as well as the inclusion of applied science and mathematics associated with biotechnology. APB is an essential course to complete the CASE Program of Study for the animal and plant pathways and to incorporate STEM initiatives into agricultural education.
CASE is asking programs for public funding. School district contributions will be used to pay for the development of the specialization course and encourage local teacher participation in CASE related to animal and plant biotechnology. School district contributions will be combined with state level, corporate, and National Science Foundation (NSF) funded projects in order to begin the writing process of the fourth CASE course. This collaboration between CASE and various partners will help to foster seamless transitions for students between secondary and post-secondary agricultural education.
The benefits to contributing schools are the following:
- Each school district and their AFNR teacher(s) will be credited as development partners in the creation of the APB course
- One secondary teacher will receive training at the APB CASE Institute free of charge (excluding personal travel)
- Opportunity for one secondary teacher to be a field test teacher for APB
- Secondary teacher(s) will have an opportunity to become a CASE Lead Teacher for APB course
- Opportunities for local teacher(s) to be part of the writing team for APB
- End of Course student assessment fees are reduced for the first year of APB course implementation
